Hill, Leroy L.


b. 1802, in Virginia. During the 1830s, Hill entered into a partnership with his brother, Silas Hill, and purchased land and a sawmill on Bear Creek in Christian County, Illinois. In 1835, Hill was a member of the Springfield-Alton Railroad subscription committee. In 1837, Hill contracted to quarry the rock for the foundation of the new statehouse building in Springfield, Illinois. In 1850, Hill was a Sangamon County farmer who owned four hundred acres of land valued at $8,500.
